Poppy Maskill secured Team GB's first gold medal as Great Britain earned a total of six medals on the opening day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Over 4,400 incredible athletes from around the world will compete across 22 sports.

Poppy Maskill and Tully Kearney both won gold medals for Great Britain, while teenager Will Ellard claimed silver in the men’s 100m butterfly S14.

Daphne Schrager and Steve Bate also secured silver medals in track cycling.

Team GB enters the competition with high hopes after their stellar performance at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, where they bagged 124 medals—41 of them gold—finishing second behind China in the overall standings.

    Jaco van Gass has claimed gold in the Men’s Pursuit C3 track cycling event, narrowly edging out fellow Brit Finlay Graham for the top spot.

    With this win, Team GB's medal tally rises to 10, including 3 golds and 5 silvers.

    Korey Boddington's gold medal in the Men’s C4-5 1,000m cycling time trial has propelled Australia into second place in the overall medal standings.

    Team GB currently holds 7 medals, including two golds secured yesterday by swimming pair Poppy Maskill and Tully Kearney.

    Matthew Robertson has added a bronze medal to the Team GB tally after defeating Japan’s Shota Kawamoto in the Men’s Pursuit C2 bronze final.

    Great Britain's Blaine Hunt narrowly missed out on the gold medal by just over a tenth of a second, delivering an impressive performance on his Paralympic debut.

    Australia's Korey Boddington claimed the gold with a time of 1:06:650

    Jody Cundy and Archie Atkinson also fell just short of medals, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

    The Team GBParalympic starwill be hoping to replicate her Tokyo 2021 success in Paris.

    At just 16 months old she had both legs and both arms amputated.

    Ellie has never seen her disability as a barrierand at primary school playedfootballagainst her able-bodied friends.

    In 2015, a chance meeting at their localPizza Hutput Ellie in touch with a disabledswimmingclub.

    Two years later she started competing, and two years after that she joined the GB regional squad.

    The swimmer will compete in the women’s 50m backstroke and the women’s 100m freestyle in Paris.

    Ali Truwit never imagined she’d return to the pool aftera shark attack lefther with a deep fear of water.

    On May 24, 2023, while snorkelling off Turks and Caicos, a shark bit off her lower leg.

    Despite the traumatic experience, the 24-year-old has shown remarkable resilience, qualifying for the 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 100m backstroke events.

    Meet Sophie Hahn

    Born on January 23, 1997,Sophie Hahnis a parasport athlete who competes primarily in T38 sprint events.

    The athlete was born withcerebral palsyand began her career in athletics when she was 15-years-old after her older brother encouraged her to join anathleticsclub.

    In Rio 2016she won goldin the T38 100m, and silver in the 4x100m relay.

    Hahn retained her title inTokyo 2020 and won gold again.

    Hahn's Paralympic Games will begin tomorrow when she competes in heat 2 of the Women's 100m T38 event.

    The scores are currently tied between Great Britain and Denmark in the wheelchair rugby, with little to separate the two teams.

    Wheelchair Rugby is played indoors on a standard basketball court with teams of four. The game uses a white ball that is identical in size and shape to a volleyball.

    Teams are mixed-gender, with both men and women competing together on the same team.

    Kadeena Cox reflects on "nightmare" Paralympics

    Kadeena Cox has described the 2024 Paralympics as "a nightmare I can't wake up from" after crashing in the final of her C4-5 500m time trial.

    Cox, who won the event at the last two Paralympics, struggled from the off before slipping, leading to a crash on the first corner.

    The four-time Paralympic gold medallist wrote on Instagram: "It’s hard to put into words how I feel. After everything I’ve battled to come back from this last year I thought this moment was going to make it worth it.

    "All I thought about when I was pushing to try get the strength back to walk let alone run/cycle last year was being able to get out there and prove grit and determination can help you achieve anything but yesterday I learnt a hard lesson in that sometimes it just doesn’t happen, whether you think you deserve it or not!!"

    Bly Twomey's quest for a second medal has ended after she and mixed doubles partner Joshua Stacey were defeated 3-0 by the Chinese duo Mao Jingdian and Zhao Shuai in the table tennis quarterfinals.

    Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was full of praise for the Paralympics while attending to support his friend, New Zealand para-badminton player Wojtek Czyz.

    "What I experienced last night was wonderful. The Opening Ceremony was like a Taylor Swift concert... Outstanding!I saw so many athletes with big smiles in the stands," he said.
